Emily Barrosse is founder and CEO of Bold Story Press, a publishing house for women authors who want to share their stories with the world.
Emily spent the first 32 years of her career in the publishing industry. As Vice President and Editor in Chief at McGraw-Hill, she transformed the sluggish culture into a competitive, hungry, growth-driven business. Fueled by explosive creativity, her division quadrupled signings of new books with innovative content for the future.
In 2002 Emily published Greg Mankiw’s Principles of Economics, the single most successful first edition college textbook ever published. The innovative editorial and marketing strategy she designed and led resulted in record-breaking sales and profits.
Karen Gulliver, Executive Editor
Karen Gulliver has worked in the publishing industry for her entire career, including developmental editing, copyediting, and production for many best-selling non-fiction books. She has worked as a freelancer for different publishers, among them Pearson, Macmillan, and Simon & Schuster. Karen’s background includes an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing, a graduate degree in English Literature, and a certificate of studies in film from the University of Montpellier in France. In her free time, Karen keeps up with two book groups, and enjoys cooking and gardening.”
Salimah Perkins, Editor
Salimah Perkins has been a professional education editor and writer for more than 25 years. With a Bachelor of Arts in English from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a Master of Arts in Writing from the Johns Hopkins University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Publishing Design from the University of Baltimore, Salimah has continued to develop and refine her editorial skills and understands how to shepherd an author’s work from the outline/drafting stage to finished manuscript. Salimah has also served as an Adjunct Writing 101 Instructor and has taken a few turns as a project manager over the course of her career. She currently lives and works in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland.
Sydney Chinowsky, Assistant Publisher
Sydney Chinowsky earned a degree in English literature at the University of Colorado Boulder with minors in theatre and linguistics. She then went on to pursue a certificate in publishing from the Denver Publishing Institute, where she learned about all aspects of publishing from some of the biggest names in the industry. Since then, she has edited novels, plays, screenplays, and poetry, as well as written marketing and social media copy. At Bold Story Press, she finds authors who are ready to have their voices heard and helps them craft their story to share it with the world.
Isabelle Weiner, Marketing and Communications Intern
Isabelle Weiner is a senior English major at Bryn Mawr College. She is on the executive board of the art club and is a writer for Bryn Mawr’s blog on HerCampus. At Bold Story Press, she works on the company blog, as well as marketing strategy. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, baking, and reading.
Katie Dalrymple, Publishing Intern
Katie Dalrymple is a junior at Elon University, majoring in Strategic Communications with minors in literature and history. Around campus, Katie is conducting academic research as an Honors Fellow, is a member of the Women’s Club Lacrosse Team, and serves as a student leader for LEAF (Lutherans, Episcopalians, and Friends). With a passion for storytelling and digital design, Katie helps Bold Story Press manage website content, branding, and external communications.
Miranda Gentin, Junior Intern
Miranda Gentin is a lifelong Washingtonian who enjoys acting, is a sprinter on the track team, and plays on the volleyball team. She is interested in entrepreneurship, and helps out with website content, social media and marketing at Bold Story Press. In her spare time, she loves watching true crime shows.
Natalie Wise, Junior Intern
Natalie Wise is an avid reader and creative writer. She aspires to work in the publishing and editing industry after graduating from college. Until then, Natalie continues to learn about the publishing process and gather all the experience that she can, listening and learning as she contributes to social media, and marketing at Bold Story Press.
